Update on Continuous Coverage
We have recently become aware of an increased incidence of single year malpractice tail coverage policies being offered by physician insurers.  If a physician selects an extended reporting option (tail coverage) that is not unlimited, this will leave the physician without coverage for any incidents that took place during the prior policy period that were not reported to the insurance carrier before expiration of the reporting endorsement.  Hospitals should be aware of this recent trend and take steps to ensure physicians have adequate coverage.  We have updated our FAQ on Continuous Coverage, which you should share with your medical staff credentialing office.
